The Hollies care home, Reading Road

Today I set up two planters outside The Hollies. These were kindly donated by a local, but the feet had rotted, so I sawed them off and stood the planters on bricks. I have a load of topsoil (another kind donation) I can fill these with, but before i put it in I need to gather some sticks and branches to go in the bottom and provide better drainage.

Once the branches are in, maybe followed by a layer of leaves, I can put topsoil in. Then we have some bagged compost to go on top to provide a good medium for planting.

I don’t know what we will plant yet, but it will probably be a combination of eye catching vegetables (maybe tomatoes and squashes?), combined with some helpful flowers, such as marigolds and nasturtiums.
